South Kansas City blends elegance with the outdoors. The Nelson-Atkins Museum provides timeless architecture, while Jerry Smith Park offers rolling prairies and peaceful walking trails. Whether you're dreaming of a grand, artistic backdrop or something more secluded and natural, this area has both.
Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art
While indoor photography isn’t allowed, the museum's vast lawn, grand neoclassical columns, and iconic shuttlecocks make it one of the most recognizable and elegant backdrops in Kansas City. It’s a timeless setting that balances classic architecture with open, natural space.
Loose Park & Rose Garden
Just south of the Plaza, Loose Park is well-known for its beauty, especially its tediously curated rose garden. Since this spot is so popular for every type of photography session, a $50 permit is required to shoot here, and requires a minimum of 2 business days lead time for the city to approve this permit for your session.
Jerry Smith Park
A hidden gem for nature lovers, this park offers rolling prairie landscapes and winding trails. Its wide-open feel and quiet seclusion make it a dreamy spot for golden-hour sessions with a rustic, adventurous vibe.
Though this park is carefully maintained by KC Parks & Rec, there is no photography permit or fee required to shoot here.
