For couples who love energy, character, and the beauty of an urban skyline, downtown Kansas City is a dream. From the sleek modernism of the Kauffman Center to the artsy streets of the Crossroads District, the city offers endless variety. Whether you’re into classic, industrial, or colorful cityscapes, downtown has something for every vibe.
In the downtown guide, you will find...
Historic River Market District
A vibrant, urban setting with historic charm. From the market itself to any of the nearby coffee shops or bars, the River Market is a great spot for those who love a city feel with a little extra character.
Downtown: Streets, Parking Structures, Streetcar, etc:
Wanting an urban vibe but don't have a particular location in mind? We can always take a walking tour of downtown and let the environment inspire us.
Speakeasies + Bars
Ideal for hopeless romantics who love a direct flash moment, Kansas City's many speakeasies provide a timeless backdrop for engagement sessions and couple photos of all kinds. Some of these favorites include PS, The Hey! Hey! Club, and The Savoy.
Speakeasy sessions most often take place in the early-mid afternoon before the bar opens for the night. Speakeasies often have a charge of $150-$300 to reserve the space for a session, though couples are usually met with a complimentary beverage or two for their session from the venue ;)
Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts
The iconic look of the Kauffman Center is an excellent choice for photos, enjoyed close up or from a distance from the Webster Garage a block away.
Crossroads
The Crossroads is known for its colorful murals, industrial textures, and unique stores. Especially if you don't mind some walking, this part of town is great for those looking for something eclectic and full of personality.
Liberty Memorial
Liberty Memorial has been a time-honored favorite for a reason. This site offers sweeping city views and gorgeous architecture at every turn.
Union Station
Union Station’s massive windows, chandeliers, and marble floors bring an air of romance and old-world charm. On busy weekends, it can be difficult to shoot around the crowds at Union Station. There is also a photography fee.
West Bottoms
If moody, vintage, and a little gritty is your thing, the West Bottoms deliver. Its historic warehouses, brick alleys, and "Scooby Doo ghost town" vibes create a kickass, cinematic atmosphere in this part of the original site of Kansas City.
Westside Historic Homes
One of the oldest, residential parts of Kansas City, Westside offers views from 19th-century homes, mid-century modern structures, and many eclectic sites in between. Since this iconic spot spans a whole neighborhood, this location best suits those who don't mind walking a mile or two during their session.
